What to do if a scheduled post didn't publish

What each calendar status means, and exactly what to check if a post didn't go out.

If a post didn't go out when you expected, start here. Most of the time, the answer is simpler than it looks.

First, check one thing: does it say Scheduled or Draft?

Ask Vicky creates every post as a Draft, on purpose, so nothing publishes without you taking a look first. A Draft will never publish on its own, no matter what time it's set for.

Open the post from your Calendar and press Schedule. That's what actually arms it. This one check resolves the large majority of "my post didn't publish" cases.

What does each status on my calendar mean?

  • Draft, created but never confirmed, will never publish

  • Scheduled, confirmed and armed, will publish

  • Publishing, being sent to your platforms right now

  • Posted, published successfully

  • Partially posted, it worked on some platforms but not others

  • Failed, every platform failed after all retries

  • Expired, more than 24 hours past its scheduled time without publishing, will never publish

It says Scheduled, so why hasn't it gone out yet?

A few things about how publishing works are worth knowing before you assume something's wrong:

  • Posts go out roughly every 15 minutes, so yours can publish up to about 15 minutes after its scheduled time, that's normal

  • Clicky Vicky retries each platform up to three times before giving up

  • Each platform is independent, one can succeed while another fails, that's what Partially posted means

  • A post stuck on Publishing for more than 20 minutes resets and retries automatically

Publishing and scheduling themselves don't use any credits, so this is never a credits issue.

What if it actually failed?

The most common reasons, and what to do about each:

  • A social connection has expired or gone inactive: go to Settings, then Connections, reconnect the affected account, then reschedule the post.

  • You've posted too much too quickly on that platform: wait a while, then reschedule. Spacing posts further apart prevents this happening again.

  • Facebook has temporarily blocked the action for a policy reason: this needs to be resolved directly with Facebook, it isn't something we can override from our side.

  • The media itself was rejected, usually because of an unsupported aspect ratio, or the upload failed after several attempts: try different media, or check it against the platform's format requirements, then reschedule.

  • The wrong Facebook Page is connected, or none can be found: see Fixing a social account connected to the wrong page.

  • A required permission is missing: reconnect the account in Settings, then Connections.

Reconnecting or fixing the underlying issue first matters, rescheduling before that just uses up the retries again.

What if it says Expired?

Once a confirmed post is more than 24 hours past its scheduled time without publishing, it's marked Expired and won't go out, even after the underlying issue is fixed. Just open it and reschedule it for a new time.

What if I recently cancelled my subscription?

Posting needs an active subscription. Any posts still pending on your calendar when your plan ends will show as failed, rather than publishing. If you resubscribe, just open those posts and reschedule them for a new time.

What if none of this fixes it?

Contact support with a description of what's happening and a screenshot of the post's status, that helps our team figure it out much faster.
